Nuchatlaht Follow Footsteps of Tsilhqot’in
Expect Aboriginal-title claims to continue making headlines going forward. In 2014, the Tsilhqot’in First Nation won a paradigm changing Supreme Court decision. The Supreme Court recognized Tsilhqot’in ownership and title to their traditional territory.
The lead councillor on this case was Jack Woodward lawyer. He is also representing the Nuchatlaht in their land title case against the federal and B.C. provincial governments. Speaking to media, when the case was filed, Woodward said this case is "historic" as it is the first application of the Tsilhqot’in decision.
Woodward said this is an attempt for a community to reclaim its hereditary inheritence.
